Yep, you heard right. I, Shae, who has been seriously nicknamed Queen of Juicing by friends, just said that.
I, Shae, whose whole Instagram feed is basically just me holding juices, just said that.
I, Shae, who has been known to carry juices with me everywhere I go, just said that
Because: this is not an attack on juicing. This is about ONE huge mistake I see people making with juicing (and especially juices cleanses, which I actually don’t love).
I remember hearing people talk about juice cleanses like they were a panacea – this miracle cure that would fix anything.
In 7 days you would detox you’re body, lose a ton of weight, your skin would get clear, your brain would feel clear and focused.
But do they mention what usually happens a few weeks later? You usually go back to feeling just like you did before. Why? Because the toxins have just recirculated and landed somewhere else in the body!
Detoxing is not a 7 day project. It’s actually a lifetime project, because our bodies simple cannot cope with the amount of unnatural toxins in our environment.
And while you’re still in the healing phase, it’s a main focus project to get rid of that back log of toxins from the body and stop new exposures from coming into the body.
But the main reason why juice cleanses aren’t the best idea is that they only stir up the toxins – they don’t help to get them OUT of the body.
This is a HUGE mistake people make with juicing and juice fasting – and it’s why they feel pretty crappy for most of the cleanse or when they first start juicing and eating healthier. And after the cleanse a few weeks later it’s back to normal.
The headache, fatigue, feeling crappy – those are all symptoms of toxins. Because the toxins are coming out of the cells, into the bloodstream and running around loose in the body with no way out.
Don’t get me wrong – I LOVE juicing! It’s one of my favourite healing strategies (and I teach that in Detox Done Different), but it’s only HALF of the detoxing equation.
Think of juicing as scrubbing your cells. The juices come in and stir up all the toxins, kicking up all the trash laying around your body.
But the toxins (trash) needs a way to actually be taken out of the body.
You need a clean-up crew to come in and put all the trash into bags and a dump truck to be taken away. That’s where coffee enemas come in.
So let me run you through what happens.
When you start eating better/drinking juices, the body starts releasing toxins from the cells into the bloodstream.
But if you don’t have the enzyme system to bind and transport them properly, they are going to run loose around the body without being taken out through one of the elimination organs.
What enzyme system? The glutathione S-transferase system.
This GST enzyme mobilizes toxins out of cells and into the liver and gall bladder and transfers free radicals to the blood stream, which are then dissolved into bile and excreted through the intestinal tract.
Coffee enemas stimulate this liver detoxification enzyme system by 600%-700% above normal activity levels.
The other problem is that, even if the toxins make it to the liver to be processed, they go into the bile to be taken out of the body.
But bile is normally reabsorbed up to 10 times in the gut as one of it’s resource (energy) saving mechanisms. That means those toxins are reabsorbed as well, redistributing them throughout the body.
Coffee enemas not only stimulate more bile flow (so that more toxins can be released), they enhance certain enzymatic reactions in such a way that is doesn’t allow reabsorption of toxic bile by the liver in the gut.
So if you are pretty toxic (which is really anyone who isn’t feeling 100%, and the worse you feel the more toxic you likely are) – then you are almost poisoning yourself by releasing these toxins that the body was safe keeping in fat cells, now they are loose without a way to get out of the body.
Dr Gerson found that without the waste-removing method of coffee enemas, the liver wasn’t able to handle the toxic load escaping from the diseased and dysfunctional cells, and could make the liver worse, and in extreme cases could be poisoned.
Dr Gerson even said “A patient is unlikely to die from cancer, but from toxins accumulated in the body.”
Another way to help the toxins bind and come out of the body is through using binders – things like chlorella, activated charcoal and zeolite which can absorb the toxins, bind them in their structures and remove them from the body.
The whole time I’ve been detoxing – I’ve been eating food too! Because when your body is doing the deep healing and detoxing work, it NEEDS fuel.
It NEEDS nourishment. It NEEDS fats and carbs. It NEEDS energy to do the taxing work of detoxing.
That’s why Detox Done Different is NOT a 5-day, 7-day or 21-day cleanse or detox plan.
It is NOT a set in stone, one-size-fits-all, day-by-day, detox plan.
It IS super powerful detoxing strategies PLUS removing toxins from your life with small switches for a bigger picture healing plan.
It is eating REAL food, that helps the body detox (but still, no one-size-fits all plan – it’s designing a healing diet that works for YOU).
You cannot DEEPLY detox and heal the body within 7 days, it takes longer than that. If you are willing to put a little bit of effort over a longer period of time – you will get MASSIVE, life- and health-changing results.
You will be able to heal at a deep, profound level.
Plus – these are strategies for LIFE. For you to be able to survive life on this toxic planet. Because we can no longer just detox and be done with it.
No matter how aware and conscious we are of toxins, they are all around us and theres no escaping. So we also need ways to help the body continually detox – maintenance.
