If you’re fridge is big enough you can buy a whole weeks (or even a little longer) worth of greens and store them in the fridge WITHOUT plastic! No specially-bought gadgets required.
It took me a while to work out how I could store a bunch of lettuces, kale, spinach, silver beet, chard etc in the fridge without them going bad, wilted and without going through ton of plastic bags to store them in.
When I started the Gerson therapy last year I really had to get it sorted, because I was going through 7 – 12 lettuces a week (not to mention all the other greens!) with juicing, and I couldn’t easily get to the store during the week (because of the strict schedule and not having a car!).
I finally figured out a few little tricks to accomplish this. And it doesn’t cost a thing if you’ve already got a few old tea towels! Here’s what I do.
Grab some old cheap tea towels.
Wet them and wring them out.
Lay the tea towel out. Put 1 – 2 lettuces (or other greens) on it.
Wrap it up (kind of like you would a diaper!).
Pop in the fridge.
Be careful of frost bite on the lettuce towards the back of the fridge.
This works for all greens too!
