With chronic illness, you’re mental state plays a huge role in not just how sick you will feel (or whether you will heal), but how you much you can enjoy you’re life and still be happy even when you’re in the thick of it.
With any illness, you’re going to go through setbacks – for me it’s the super fun glutenings that can happen at any time with celiac.
If you’re healing, you’re going to go through heavy detox periods that are as sucky as they sound.
You go through healing crises – a flare up of the pain/symptoms you get with the illness, and sometimes you’re even lucky enough to get the fever and flu-like symptoms which mean a breakthrough is happening.
These are going to happen – how you handle these make all the different to your health, and to your happiness.
Healing takes time.
You can’t put off happiness until after you’ve healed and don’t feel sick anymore. You have to find a way to be happy even while being sick and having a messy life – and you’ll find that you’re healing accelerates as an unexpected result.
Healing doesn’t have to mean misery, even while dealing with sickness or healing symptoms.
And when you’re feeling sick, that’s when it’s easiest for us to slip into that deep dark hole of depression and think it’s never going to get better. I’m always going to feel sick. I’m such a loser because I can’t get a handle on this. I’m so lazy because I can’t work today.
But deep deep down know that this too shall pass. The sky will clear and it will be sunny again soon enough. We just need to remember it.
Over time I’ve learn how to deal with these setbacks and healing crises in a positive way. Watch the video below to see how I manage to keep my mind in a good space so that I can spend that energy on healing.
