Yep, technically they’re the same word – but there’s actually a world of difference between them. One is a powerful healing method, the other is not.
That difference is whether it will actually heal you, or whether it’s just a fluffy fad marketing gimmick. The difference is in the strategy and mindset of the two.
Doing “a detox” is your classic 7-day, 21-day, some-number-of-day detox. It could be green smoothies, green juices, lemon-cayenne-pepper, tea-tox (don’t even get me started) or whatever other stupid gimmick they come up with next.
It’s the idea of doing a detox within a confined window of time with some kind of ‘cleansing’ liquid.
It’s seen as a reboot, a kickstart. But really it’s just us trying to get a quick fix, out of desperation and frustration when we’re sick of not getting anywhere.
Detoxing is a longer-term healing game plan.
It’s a strategy to deeply heal the body, to remove all the built up toxins – the plastics, chemicals, toxic metals.
It’s a part of a bigger healing strategy that involves diet, emotions and the detoxing work that HAS to happen in order to get better.
Think about those nasty chemicals for a second that we’re being exposed to.
The ones that bio-accumulate in the tissues of the body. The plastics, the phthalates, the pesticides, the DDT, the chemicals, the toxic metals like mercury, cadmium, lead, arsenic that are in the air we breath, the water we drink, the food we eat.
(And PS. These chemicals have been found in polar bears – if the polar bears in the arctic haven’t escaped – you haven’t either!)
Do you think all those toxins are going to be released by the body in a week, or even two or three?
No, they’re not.
The body doesn’t let go of these toxins easily. There’s a reason your body has stored them away safely, usually in fat cells – because they are super toxic to your body.
The body will only let go of these toxins when it knows that it has the energy to see the entire process through – when the liver can cope with it.
This process takes time.
It takes time to build the body up nutritionally, to build up strength, it takes time to start detoxing those deeper and deeper layers.
And I wish I could sit here and tell you that you can do a 7 day detox with green juice and then it will be all smiles and rainbows and you’ll be healed.
But that’s not the truth. I wrote a Facebook post the other day about how much easier it would be for me to just create and sell a 7 day juice cleanse, but I don’t believe in them.
I mean, coffee enemas are a hard sell.
I honestly believe that pretty much everyone should be doing coffee enemas these days. Telling people that real detoxing takes years is a hard sell. No one wants to hear that! No one wants to accept that!
There are so many things I could be making that would be super popular, that would sell awesomely, that would probably make me a lot of money.
But I’ve seen other people doing that, and it pisses me off.
Because I was sold that. And it’s a LIE.
And everytime that shit didn’t work, it broke my heart. I’d feel depressed, I’d feel hopeless, and I would end up angry at MYSELF for “failing” yet again.
So I feel so strongly about this mission to really show people what it takes to REALLY heal. Not just what will sell, or is popular, or looks good on the outside.
Detox Done Different is not a one-size-fits-all day-by-day detox plan.
Because that’s not even necessary.
What is necessary is figuring out what food works for you, incorporating detox strategies that suit your body, removing as many sources of toxic exposure in your home, beauty, life, food as possible and doing this for a longer period of time, changing things as your body changes.
It might be a bit annoying because you have to do a little experimenting and detective work to see what suits you – but it’s the strategy that will actually, truly, deeply heal you long-term.
This is detoxing done differently (hence the name!) than you’ve ever seen it before. This is detoxing that actually works.
Plus the fact that all of these quick-fix detoxes miss a huge fact: they’re only doing the first step of the process – stirring the toxins up.
And by missing the second step of the process – removing the toxins from the body – they’re actually hurting you more.
With these kinds of detoxes or cleanses, all the toxins start being released from cells and most go from the blood stream (the blood picks up toxins from tissues) and go to the liver, where they are put in bile to be removed from the body.
But bile is reabsorbed by the body up to 10 times as a resource saving mechanism, and the toxins are just reabsorbed, except this time they are in a concentrated form.
There are a few detoxing strategies that work to either increase bile flow and remove bile from the body (coffee enemas) or that ‘pick up’ the toxins in the intestines (binders).
You need both of those sides of detoxing – the stirring up the toxins from the cells and even more importantly the REMOVING the toxins from the body.
What we’ve got in the detoxing hyped up mythology is too much of the first step, which is really dangerous because then you’ve got concentrated amounts of toxins running loose.
But the most important thing is to get them OUT of the body.
Most people do “a detox”, go through the hell of feeling like shit (because there’s no real way for the body to get the toxins OUT of the body, then a few weeks later they are feeling EXACTLY the same as before they went through that foodless nightmare – because the toxins just got reabsorbed.
The two big differences in the two are strategy and mindset.
DETOXING is a way of living.
We are actually living in a toxic world right now. So detoxing needs to be something that we are a doing every single day for the rest of our lives to keep eliminating the toxins we’re unintentionally exposed to (just breathing and living our normal lives).
I’m not saying you’ll have to do coffee enemas every single day for the rest of you’re life – they are a more shorter-term intense detoxing strategy when you’re first healing. But theres lots of really little practices we can include in our daily lives to keep eliminating.
But we need to get rid of this toxic burden in our bodies that is literally sucking the life-force out of us and making us feel sick and crappy.
If you’re not bouncing out of bed everyday, clear headed, bright eyed, bushy tailed, full of energy, and glowing with vibrance – toxins have got you by the balls.
And it’s really not that hard to do detoxing the right way. Here’s the recipe:
- remove exposures to toxins in your entire life: food, air, water (a HUGE one that most people miss!), home (laundry, cleaning), and bathroom (personal care etc)
- the right detoxing strategies that are powerful and will:
- stir up the toxins (juicing, diet, certain supplements and detox strategies)
- remove toxins from the body (coffee enemas, binders, saunas)
- remove any emotional tox-blocks – old stuck emotions in the body
- do that over a longer period of time
That is the recipe that’s laid out in Detox Done Different – I hand hold you through the entire process of HOW to do those detox strategies, HOW to find and remove tox-blocks from your life and HOW to do the emotional detoxing.
