Every day, I would wake up in a haze. My head felt like it was a brick, like it weighed a ton.
After sleeping for 11 hours, I’d wake up tired and haul myself out of bed – I do mean haul literally as well. It was an EFFORT to wake up in the morning. I think it took me 30 minutes just be be able to open my eyes.
During the day, I would sit at my desk, a ton of work to do, but I’d just stare out of the window. 30 minutes would pass, and I would realise I’d just spent that long staring at things.
I was forgetting things. What I was doing, where I was walking to, what I was saying, where I left things. I would forget words when I was in the middle of a sentence – which felt SO embarrassing to me. I hated feeling so stupid that I couldn’t remember a word.
I couldn’t remember what I’d done the day before or even what I’d eaten the day before. I actually couldn’t remember big chunks of my life and things I’d done.
My boyfriend at the time would say, “remember when we did this?” – and I would be like “umm… no – did that really happen?”.
It became a running joke, but honestly it was scary. To be losing you’re memory like that.
To be so scattered, spacey, and not with it that it was hard to hold down a conversation.
Only recently, I’ve discovered one of my true passions in life is writing. Writing like this, to you.
I had no idea about this before maybe 6 months ago, because I literally could not sit down at the computer and write anything. It hurt to try and sit down and write.
I’ve been blogging for about 3 years doing recipes, and when I had to write something to go with a recipe, it would take me days to write 300 or so words.
But now, I can sit down and type out 1000 – 2000 words EASILY, from the heart. Because I can actually THINK clearly. My brain actually works and I can sit and read and learn and concentrate for long periods.
I would have NEVER known writing was my passion, if I hadn’t of healed and got my brain back.
Now I get to do this for a living, and that just fills me with so much joy and gratitude that I kind of want to cry. This is what healing and being healthy again has given me – my whole life back.
Brain fog is an entirely new phenomena. When did you ever hear of anyone having brain fog before maybe 10 or 15 years ago?
But it’s so common now.
WHY is brain fog happening?
It’s part of a larger problem within the body, and it’s usually not a symptom you experience in isolation. Meaning, it’s usually one of many symptoms going on.
So fixing brain fog, starts with fixing the body.
One of the biggest causes of brain fog – toxins.
Let’s start with the basic foods which can all contribute to brain fog, especially if someone is particularly sensitive to them: sugar, gluten, soy, milk, alcohol, and trans fats.
Any food sensitivities (to any food, even healthy ones like nuts or eggs) can cause brain fog too.
Then there’s the food toxins, the chemicals they add to food: food additives (colours, flavours) and preservatives, MSG and excitotoxins (they literally kills brain cells), and artificial sweeteners are actually notorious for causing brain fog.
Environmental toxins like chemicals and heavy metals (like mercury, lead and aluminium) in food, air, water supply, beauty and cleaning and everyday household products.
Toxic metals are especially toxic to the brain – and we’re all being exposed to them in everyday life – in the tap water, in medications, in the air (from industrial pollution), in the food supply (from food grown near industrial run off).
Copper imbalance creates confusion, disorientation, mood swings and racing thoughts, and it’s really common in women because it’s caused by birth control pills, vegetaian diets and zinc deficiency.
The metals mercury, aluminum, cadmium, lead all affect the brain – and we’re being exposed to all of them.
- Mercury in dental amalgums and fish
- Aluminum in cooking foil, table salt, saucepans and cooking equipment, vaccines, food supply, tap water
- Cadmium from car exhausts (live near a busy road?), second hand smoke
- Lead, water supply from lead pipes, old cracked paint
These are all around us, and this is only scratching the surface. See what I mean when I say no one has escaped?
THIS is why we NEED to detox.
In todays world, you actually have to work to keep the liver clean and healthy.
If you want to learn how to detox, check out my program called Detox Done Different, all about removing toxic exposures and detoxing the body of this crap!

FOOD + LIFESTYLE
Now you obviously need to be doing the basics for health – getting enough sleep, being relaxed and not stressed out, eating whole foods and a healthy diet.
Another huge reason for brain fog – not enough healthy, high-quality fats in the diet. Low fat is a brain killer. The brain NEEDS fats to function. Full stop.
High quality fats: coconut oil, flax seed oil, salmon/oily fish, animals fats, especially butter and tallow.
THE GUT CONNECTION
Toxins will also destroy the gut lining and barrier, causing leaky gut. This let’s these toxins right into your bloodstream, where they overly the liver and can go straight to the brain.
So the gut also needs to be healed in order to heal the brain and brain fog.
Another big reason for brain fog is bowel toxicity. When you’re digestive system isn’t working properly (and whose is these days), then the colon gets backed up and clogged up.
Then you have rotting waste matter sitting in the colon, putrefying, decomposing and fermenting and creating toxic by-products, poisoning the system from the inside out – a recipe for disaster and disease.
This is where regular coffee enemas can help, because they can clean out the colon and clear all of this compacted waste matter. They also help to detox the body and the liver, helping the heal brain fog in that way too.
One of the other big things that helped me clear brain fog was by grounding. I now sleep on a grounding pillow every night.
Excessive positive charge in the atmosphere is linked to health problems. Negative electrons are powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatories.
The Earth’s surface is charge with free electrons, but we almost never have bare contact with the Earth anymore because of being indoors and wearing shoes.
Other factors can also be playing a role in brain fog, like thyroid, adrenal issues, candida, infections, pharmaceuticals, EMF’s.
Happy brain healing!
