We’re constantly told that inflammation is the root cause of illness. But how does that help us? It makes it seem like inflammation is this mysterious thing that comes from nowhere and that we have no control over. That information is useless unless we talk about what CAUSES inflammation in the first place, and how to stop it.
Chronic inflammation leads to most of the chronic illnesses we see today like cancer, heart disease, arthritis, chronic fatigue, diabetes, all diseases ending with -itis, and especially autoimmune diseases.
When I was really suffering from the autoimmune attacks when I was in the thick of it with celiac disease, the chronic inflammation was one of the most noticeable and painful signs (besides my intestines constantly feeling like they were exploding). I’d wake up literally on fire with inflammation (okay, not literally). I’d wake up with my eyes puffed up so much I could barely open them. Everything hurt, all the time.
WHERE INFLAMMATION COMES FROM
Inflammation is the immune systems natural response to injury.
The body makes free radicals to turn on inflammation.
We’re taught that free radicals are bad because they lead to cancer. But in fact free radicals are the body’s cleaning crew, and without them we would die.
But when we don’t have enough electrons to tell the free radicals to stop and we’re getting constant injury to the body, we get chronic inflammation. So free radicals are really just good guys gone bad.
What puts the flames of inflammation out? Antioxidant and electrons. (Antioxidants are substances that have an extra electron.)
One the free radicals are done with their cleanup job, our body’s use antioxidants or electrons like a fire extinguisher.
When you have an electron (antioxidant) deficiency or constant injury, you’ll have chronic inflammation.
But again, what’s causing this injury in the first place?
WHAT CAUSES INFLAMMATION?
Inflammation is the trigger for disease, but what’s loading the gun?
Inflammation not only irritates the cells of the body so they aren’t able to function properly, it also disrupts stem cell DNA. Dr. Nicholas Gonzales said that “cancer develops by stem cells getting irritated by the toxicity we take in from the environment.”
The root cause
In order to get inflammation under control, you need two things:
1. Stop the injury from happening to the body the first place
The inflammation is just a response to some injury that’s happening in the body. You need to get to the root of what’s causing the injury in the first place in order to stop the inflammation.
2. Give the body an abundance of electrons
The body needs an abundant supply of antioxidants and electrons in order to put the inflammation fire out, and tell the free radicals to stop.
10 steps to put the fire out and heal inflammation
1. stop eating the toxic foods
Sugar, gluten, alcohol, dairy, excessive coffee drinking and toxic oils (trans-fats, vegetable oils like canola, soy, safflower) are especially triggering for inflammation.
2. get rid of toxic environmental exposures
Toxins are irritating to the cells of the body, and cause inflammation as a response. The most common sources of toxic exposures are fluoride and chlorine in tap water, air pollution, prescription drugs, food, pesticides, solvents, smoke, perfumes and air fresheners, laundry detergent, cleaning products, beauty products like make-up, hair dye, lotions, soaps etc.
3. detox the stored toxins from the body
Those stored toxins that bioaccumulate in the body are extremely irritating to the cells, and because they are always there, they’re chronic. You need to get rid of these chemicals and heavy metals. To go deeper into detoxing, check out my free detoxing resource guide here.
4. get rid of chronic stress and negative emotions and beliefs
Intense and constant negative emotions change the chemistry of the body, turn on the stress response and will cause inflammation. From a metaphysical standpoint, inflammation is seeing red, feeling like your on fire, angry.
5. Eat Anti-oxidants
Give the body the antioxidants it needs to signal the free radicals to stop. We can get antioxidants from fruits and veggies, and things like glutathione and coQ10.
The biggest source of antioxidants is actually the Earth itself! The Earth’s surface is the biggest source of free electrons.
This is where grounding can play a powerful role in helping inflammation. Spending time outside each day barefoot on the Earth can provide the body with an abundance of electrons. We’ll talk more about grounding another day.
7. Get enough sleep
Getting a full nights sleep of 8 hours so the body can fully regenerate and work on healing.
8. Don’t over-Exercise
Over-exercising can wear the body down and cause inflammation. Make sure your not overdoing it.
9. Get Proper hydration
Drinking enough water, and the right type of water to properly hydrate the body. Chronic dehydration is irritating to the body.
10. still have inflammation? Check for other injuries
There can also be structural issues that cause inflammation like spinal misalignment or an underlying infection causing inflammation.
For people with autoimmune conditions, it means stopping the autoimmune attacks. For example with celiac, you need to stop eating gluten and usually also the cross reactors like oats, rice, corn, (grains in general), milk etc.
