We live in a deficient, soil-depleted, chemical-filled, toxic-world these days. On top of that most of us have a good decade or two of eating processed junk food filled with all kinds nasty stuff under our belt, before we become aware of damage it’s doing.
This is where juicing becomes an incredibly important and vital part of regaining our health.
Juices contains the nutrient-hit that we are sorely missing, as well as the ability to detoxify all the crap out of our bodies.
Juicing becomes even more important if you are struggling with any health issues. A deficiency in vital nutrients is one of the primary causes of chronic and degenerative illness.
Let me just clarify that juices are different from smoothies. Juicers grind the produce and separate the fibres from the liquid. All the nutrients remain in the liquid and you are left with a dry fibrous pulp. This is different than a smoothie, made in a blender, which still retains all the fibre, leaving the body to work a bit harder to extract nutrition.
1. The nutrition your body has been SCREAMING for!
By drinking fresh, raw vegetable juices you are drinking a liquid shot of easily absorbed and assimilated vitamins, minerals, enzymes, protein and oxygen. These nutrients are absorbed by the body within 15 minutes of drinking the juice, without the body having to expel any energy.
And for someone with celiac disease where you have trouble absorbing and assimilating nutrients, juices are like a gift from God!
2. Cleanses + rebuilds the body
Juices not only provide extra fluid intake, but juices provide nearly all of the nutrients including vitamins, minerals, enzymes, phytochemicals, proteins and other vital substances required for your body to heal itself!
Juices tend to stir up all toxins out of the cells and help to clean up your inner environment. In The Gerson Therapy, Charlotte Gerson writes that the kidneys are flushed more effectively when juices are consumed (particularly the Gerson juices of Carrot Apple and the Gerson green), and that testing has shown that juice enzymes are cleansing agents – sometimes truly diuretic in nature.
3. Your fix of raw food + enzymes
Juices are full of enzymes and of course they are raw, so getting your fix of fresh raw fruit and vegetables becomes incredibly easy! I love eating a balance of raw fruits and vegetables, salads as well as warming cooked foods like potatoes, eggs and veggies, but it’s also great to know that I’ve already more than filled my quota of raw veggies before I even eat!

All these complaints I hear that juicers are the hardest thing in the world to clean – I call bull! When I was using a little masticating cold press juicer it seriously took me like 2 minutes to clean it! My friend recently bought that same juicer (an Oscar Neo) and couldn’t believe how quick and easy it was to clean!
My Norwalk that I have now takes a little longer to make the juice and to clean it up, but it’s necessary for me and my health so I just bloody do it!
5. If you just change ONE THING in your life, add in juices
Even if your still addicted to oreos, coke or ice-cream, just start to add in fresh vegetable juices, even before you take anything out of your diet. The idea of adding in healthy foods instead of taking away those junk foods you love doesn’t leave you feeling deprived, or like your on a restrictive diet.
One of the main reasons diets don’t work is because all you are thinking about is what you can’t have! By adding in healthy foods, especially fresh juices, you are focused on what you CAN have. And so it’s not about deprivation or restriction. Soon you’ll find you are craving more healthy, fresh foods and those other junk food habits will eventually slip away.
We could be eating all day long, but if we’re eating dead, processed junk that has no nutritional value whatsoever, we are going to be literally starving for nutrients – no matter the calorie count of what you ate!
